By a vote of 37-20

F.I.D.E. has asked Kirsan not to run for its presidency again.

I surprised that he only got 20 votes. I figured it would be higher. The problem with buying votes is you have to be sure they stay bought.

Any word on whether he plans to give this request any consideration?

Well since he is still claiming he ought to be running things, I doubt it.

Now if the Kremlin decides their interests are better served by someone different then Kirsan will change his tune vey quickly.

The Russian government uses its diplomatic power to “encourage” countries to vote for the Russian nominee. So far they are doing just that.

What most US folks do not understand is that around thee world national chess federations are usually part of the government. the Russian government goes through government contacts to get national federation votes.
We all know the US government could not care less.

Most national federations in the world assume the US federation is part of US government, even though we keep telling them we are not.
