Prize distribution

At one 1991 tournament that I did with a based on prize fund the number of players showing up was significantly greater than the based on. The original prize fund was 100-40, A-40, B-40, C-40, D-40. The adjusted prize fund took the class turnout into account and become something like 100-60-40, A-50, B-45, C-55, D-40.

It’s easier explaining the logic to Bob in that case (2 B players sharing 2nd overall and top B) than explaining it to Alonzo when Alfred is an A player, with the following being possibilities in the original case.
You could choose the A prize (saying that $75 is higher than B’s $75 even though each of the two tied players is eligible for only one prize and the prizes are of equal monetary value)
You could choose the B prize (saying that Alfred brought in second place and Bernie then brought in the only prize left for him)
You could choose half of each (saying that there was no definite way to choose either A or B, so half of each was used)
