I find it absurd. But then I also find deciding a World Cup on penalty kicks pretty strange.
Draw odds is way too big an advantage for an extra black. But suppose you took a page from the Arageddon playbook -bidding? The players could bid on how many extra blacks they would accept to get draw odds. Or on how much of a time deficit in each game, white or black, to get draw odds.
Agreed about the World Cup. That’s like having game seven of the baseball World Series end tied after nine innings, so you decide it with a home run derby…Your ideas of bidding on number of blacks or on time odds are interesting. They’re both better than the current format, but then that’s a pretty low bar to cross.
A suggestion from a fan at Chessbase. If there’s a tie, have the players continue playing classical games until one of them wins. The first one to score a victory is the champion. I like that except that I would have the original match be for 16 or 18 games.
