2007 US Junior Open?

Has anyone heard anything about when or where this will occur? Or, if not, when we might expect such information to be announced?

Per Bill Hall, a bid has been received and will probably be approved in the next few days.

According to Chess Life, there have been no bids put into USCF to run this event. If no one is willing to organize the tournament I don’t see how it’s going to happen this year.

The bid has been awarded to Tampa and the tournament should be taking place June 22-24.

Thanks for the replies. Too bad about the date, though – there’s probably going to be some strong juniors at the Castle Camp in Atlanta who’ll be unhappy about not getting to play (conflict with the Emory Grand Prix, which is included in the camp).

June has often been the month that the US Junior has been held.

There was a long thread a few months back on why this was the case and what (if anything) could be done about it, with no real resolution to the issues.

If this bid has been awarded, why do we not see it on the USCF site? I see other national tournaments listed, but not this one. Was JonH premature, or are the folks who update such things asleep at the switch?

At the time I last posted on this topic, I was told the bid was still being reviewed by the Executive Director. I’m not sure if a decision has been reached, or who is responsible for updating the page you alluded to. (URL please!)

People seem to expect INSTANTANEOUS updates in every possible place information can be posted.

Is that realistic?

Instantaneous? Of course not. But JonH’s post was 11 days ago. If in fact the award had been made at that time I think it’s reasonable to think it would show up someplace. That’s why I wondered if the announcement was premature, and as you indicated, I was right.

I don’t really know if it was premature or not.

However, I am also not the person who would have handled posting that information anywhere. (One of the staff members who was handling updating portions of the website, Brett Farris, has taken another position and is no longer a USCF employee.)

The tournament is officially in Tampa. As soon as a website is up for it, I will let the office know.

Have you created an online TLA for it yet?

The organizers are working on it as I type.

I have just asked the USCF to post the hotel info and dates on the website.
