Come to Boca Raton, Florida - April 28 to May 3 and be part of a great combined Triple: The 2008 US Senior Championshps, The Chess Collectors International annual meeting featuring a display and prsentation of portions of the Dean Collecion (the largest and most prestigious collection of chess sets in the world), a CCI auction of collector’s chess sets, US Hall of Fame inductions of GMs Larry Christiansen, Nick deFirmian and joel Benjamin (all will be there), World Hall of Fame induction of Tarrash etc.
The Senior tournament will be a five round tournament and in the event of ties will use an idea of mine for a unique one game playoff round for the championships. the playoff round will be SD with white having 2 hours and Black having draw odds. Black’s time will be determined by bidding between the two players and the player willing to play black with the least time gets black and the draw odds.
There are many other activities plannedincluding a Susan Polgar talk at the banquet and 10 Board simul - so come , meet the stars, play in a national championship, and see a week of chess like you have never seen before!

And I hope you and your wife will come. Joel and I and our wives would be delighted to spend some time with you and your wife while here. This truly is shaping up as a great event.Don
As a local, I was aware of the tournament. I’m too young to play in it, but I have some friends from the local clubs who will be there competing for last place.
I didn’t realize there was other stuff going on at the same time. Is there a schedule available online somewhere of where/when everything is happening? Are the Chess Hall of Fame inductions taking place at the Hall of Fame in Miami or at the tournament site in Boca? I’d like attend some of these events if possible.
i will be working on a detail schedule next week and have it posted on Jon Haskel’s website bocachess.com. The inductions will be at the Hall of Fame and then the inductees will come to the Marriott Boca hotel for the banquet in honor of their induction, the tournament winners and CCI members and willfeature Susan Polgar as guest speaker - a great banquet with all the trimmings!
If you ever want to get chess on TV, this is the way to do it! Make sure the bidding process is part of the coverage. It’d be like those post-midnight poker shows, except that something intelligent would be happening.
Your Armageddon Chess tie-break: Very logical – to have the players both bid with ever smaller amounts of time for draw odds with black. Indeed, bidding for black should be understood as an indispensible part of proper Armageddon rules.
I assume this Armageddon Chess is without any game clock delay or increment, right?
I remember thinking how silly it was that the Kramnik-Topalov 2006 contract called for a non-bidding form of Armageddon Chess as a last ditch tie-breaker (unneeded when Kramnik won the Rapid tie-breakers).
I wonder what the age minimum is to be in the Senior Open?
