25 Million dollar lawsuit

Whats up with this lawsuit by Susan Polgar?

Quote…

“3. Susan Polgar has commenced a legal action against USCF for $25 million that we believe is without merit, requiring the federation to incur significant legal fees that could be better spent supporting United States chess players. Ms. Polgar does not speak for the USCF or a majority of its Executive Board.”

We could offer to settle in exchange for our membership list and FIDE affiliation.

Do you want the history? It started in about 2002 with an unhealthy relationship between Frank Niro and Susan Polgar according to a Vice President of Finance at the time.
After Frank Niro left as Executive Director, Susan threatened to sue the USCF and its members at least 5 times since. According to Aaron Nimzowitsch “The threat is mightier than the execution”.

The problem with a threat, you are not suppose to play that move, as most threats are unsound with a proper response. I think Mz. Polgar is about to learn that lesson. Just my take on it.

I am not sure what reason she is giveing for this law suite, nor am I aware of wether or not it is valid. If it is not a valid suite this is just one more example of why there should be laws against and punishing frivolous law suites. The way I see it anyone who testafies a lie, or files a false claim, or law suite should pay the same penalty they wanted to impose on the other party. EXACTLY THE SAME, no appeals or mediations.

I hope she goes the way of OJ.

I would refer you to my posts “Turning Point” in the USCF section of Chess Discussion.com. This series answers the questions posed above and goes much further, besides. This series was also published in my blog (address below) and ChessUSA.

Directly related is the thread “More Nasty USCF Politics” on Chess Discussion. You may be especially interested in Susan Polgar’s own comments in these threads that pertain to your topic.

To summarize Susan’s side of this issue: both her and Paul Truong were attacked by very serious accusations of misconduct. The USCF has leveled accusations that could result in criminal prosecution if they are true. Given the huge nature of the accusations that have been made, Susan and Paul believe that they have no choice but to fight back. The USCF has both sued and have been sued. There are now a good half dozen lawsuits now on the radar.

A historical note: The Executive Board majority backed by the Executive Director tried at the last Delegates Meeting to have Paul Truong removed from office. The Delegates voted against this by a large majority.

Most pertinent of all my references is Susan Polgar’s own thread: Lawsuit against 15 Parties.

Polgar’s lawsuit alleges libel and slander, but does not specify what was said that was libelous or slanderous.

The following website has all the public legal documents of the lawsuits involving USCF, Polgar and Truong:

I have not found any allegations from Mz. Polgar nor Mr. Truong, over the last year that have had any substantiation. Very similar to their election boasts and claims.
All I can determine to this point, is they appear to have reached a new all time low in “Dirty Chess Politics”. Which they claimed they would eradicate if elected.
If Susan’s 25 million dollar frivolous lawsuit is an example of that eradication, it is most certainly one sad example. As much so as she and her husband have been and continue to be, sad examples of USCF Executive Board members. Just my take on it.

I didn’t know there was that much money in chess. Gosh.
