A state scholastic championship being held just on a Sunday?

Ones persons facts is the other persons fantasy. Chesswolf makes one statement and you iuplift make the other. How the former President left office, is not going to make me lose sleep.

True, but it does speak to character.

Character is a just statement, as Chesswolf did base his whole argument on passion. Even a ontological argument, as the dialogue could have been about why its’ unethical to have Sunday events because of religion. Even the statement that could be looked on as anti-Semitism. Its’ true he is still in High School and being a statement of passion; I’m not going to go make a mole out of a mole hill of it. The statement of being a Saturday or Sunday event is a fair dialogue to work on.

Yes, I did make a statement that I had no proof of, nor any right to say it. At the time of the post I had not been told by iuplift that the statement was wrong. I apologize for making a statement that was just a guess of mine, and implying that it was a fact. I will try to be more careful in the future.

I am pleased to see that Chesswolf is contrite and that he recognized that polite and public discussions are important. When implications are made the message is often overlooked.

Certianly, Sunday is not the ideal day for a Scholastic Tournament more discussion is needed and is necessary. Chesswolf’s, suggestion of a Friday-Saturday Event are worthy and will be strongly considered for next year.

thank for adding to the discussion.

In Illinois the Illinois High School Association has tried the Friday/Saturday option for the team state championship (8-board fixed), and that seems to work fine. Apparently the IHSA doesn’t have a problem with students needing to take Friday off to play for their school. That way, a late night going home on Saturday still allows for the players to get their rest before going to school on Monday. It also allows teams with a long travel distance to stay overnight Saturday and go home on Sunday.

An elementary/middle school group has been using the Saturday (rounds 1-4)/Sunday (rounds 5-7) option for the past couple of decades for the team/individual state championship (top 4 individual scores count as the team score, no limit to the number of players on a team), and that also seems to work fine. The IESA has not weighed in on competitive chess so a group of parents and coaches set things up at that level. Players do not need to take a day off of school, and with awards generally finishing before 5 PM on Sunday there is still time for almost all teams to get home at a decent hour.

I’ve directed over a hundred 1-day tournaments for both levels and all have been Saturday only. I haven’t heard of a Sunday only scholastic event, but that doesn’t mean we haven’t had them here.

thanks for your time and input
