Also, there’s a parents and friends tournament on Saturday. Anyone been to one of these? They say four rounds. How long do you think it will last? Is it blitz, or what? Presumably unrated, right?
I haven’t been to a national scholastic in a few years, but when I was the Scholastic Committee Chair (1988 and 1989) the parents and coaches meetings at Nationals were well attended and sometimes quite spirited.
It’s often where issues get discussed in advance of policy formulation.
I’d recommend attending if you have any interest in scholastic chess policies, including future events.
I suspect the new ratings system may come up a few times there, too, though there is a separate presentation on the ratings system at 2PM on Saturday.
