Bronstein equivalent to simple delay?

Again, depends on the position, initial time control, etc. Had a couple of games last weekend where I had to stop recording in time pressure - and increment likely wouldn’t have made a difference on that.

Kevin,
Increment makes a huge difference on the effects of time pressure. I think of players getting low on time when they have a 30" increment as being slow motion compared to 5" delay time pressure. I’ve seen games go for a long time (20 - 30 moves) with both players playing on the increment. Recording is rarely an issue.

I can understand that. This past weekend I had positions in time pressure that required a great deal of calculation which I had to cut short because of time pressure (along with cutting short recording.) In these positions, 30 seconds of increment - rather than 5 second delay - would have been like having 25 more seconds of delay, and would have been used in the calculation, and not to increase the recording time. As a result, I’m sensitive to the issue. Maybe its rare - but in this particular tournament (which is held regularly) it seems like I have at least one game per tournament like this out of the 3-4 rounds in the event.

Given that, a requirement that I ALWAYS must keep score, even when under say - 1-2 minutes - simply doesn’t make sense to me, and encourages me to shy away from increment in shorter time control events.

Who knows, maybe I wouldn’t have gotten in time pressure to begin with under increment. But until I have some experience with that, its hard to imagine being comfortable in that situation.

You can easily get that experience in the Chicago area. And once you do, I’m confident you’ll find keeping score with a 30-second increment to be not difficult at all.

Advance registration for Sevan’s tournament tomorrow morning (Saturday, January 24, 2015) may longer be possible by the time you read this – his events fill up sometimes. But he’s got another one a week later, a Plus Score no less. See you there?

Have to plan Saturdays at least a couple of weeks in advance - heaviest day for lessons and also doing a lot of work right now to put our house up for sale.

Maybe Sevan can be convinced to list his events 1-2 months in advance, as he has often done in the past.
