Greetings,
Happy Father’s Day to all the chess dads out there!
My wife and son let me enjoy a day of chess at the Renaissance Festival yesterday and a free scoop of butter pecan at Culver’s today. You can see the pictures of the Ren Fest here:

I got a comment from Bill Bell about the website and how it can be better. I appreciate the comment and will try to make things better:

I read your e-mail and newsletter when it comes, but I can’t make heads or tails of what is happening in town. It’s like you have to have been there to understand what you are saying. Just trying to be candid and helpful, because at this rate, I woun’t be able to use your information to get connected with any sort of chess activities here in town. The USCF listings at least give a time, a date, a place, and other fairly clear details.
Thanks. If the type in these boxes were black, I could read it better, too.<
As far as what is happening in town, my website was not meant to replace other websites that were doing the same thing. I was just trying to be a reminder for those sites. For example, in these emails, the Upcoming Events section listed events and the sites where the details could be found. Typically, I was listing events from the Colorado Springs Chess Club (CSCC) and the Colorado State Chess Association (CSCA). However, when the CSCC website got hacked, I received a number of complaints about bad links. After removing it, the complaints stopped, but it does make it difficult to find the details of those events. The CSCA website is still an excellent source for events happening statewide. So, I will look into a better way provide information about upcoming events, especially for the Colorado Springs Chess Club.
Normally, here is what I know is happening in town.
Sunday: 1st Sunday only, casual chess at Petries Family Games, 1pm
Monday: Borders Chess Club for scholastics, 6pm
Tuesday: Colorado Springs Chess Club with free unrated events and occasional rated events, 7pm
Wednesday: Rated chess at East Coast Deli, 6pm
Thursday: Rated chess at Panera Bread (N Academy), 6pm
Saturday: 3rd Saturday only, casual chess at Agia Sophia, 8pm & Weekend tournaments (see CSCA)
I am thinking about adding a calendar to the website that members of Colorado Springs Chess News would be able to add events to. Here are other benefits of being a member of my website:
- Join using your facebook profile
- Add comments on my site and facebook simultaneously
- Post a blog (Anthea and Tim, you should give it a try)
- Add links
- Add videos
- Add photos
- Create a profile
- Message Members
- Add friends
- Adjust how often you receive email updates
Finally, a word about the facebook group. The groups are being updated so that email updates are no longer possible. You should become a member of my site to keep receiving those updates (cschess.webs.com/). All current group members will be switched to the new groups format.
If you have any question about the changes or suggestions for ways to improve the website, please let me know. Thanks!
Peace be with you,
Paul Anderson
