club liability issues

I am very interested in starting a scholastic chess club in my area. There is a lot of talent in my area and these kids could greatly benefit from a club that meets their needs as well as their parents. My biggest fear, however, is that I could get sued, like from a kid falling and injuring himself. Even with liability insurance this could be an issue. An attorney friend of mine thought that the risks outweigh any benefits that could be gained. He felt that it only takes one irate parent to financially ruin a person.

Is this an issue with other clubs? Am I being paranoid?

No, you’re not being paranoid.
