Grand Prix Fee

What are the fees for a Grand Prix tournament?

whatever it costs to get the add in chess life in time. You can donate $1 per player to increase the points level of your section as well.

As far as I understand your question, the only requirements for a tournament to be a Grand Prix event are for it to have a TLA in Chess Life and for it to pay over $300 in place prizes that are available to all players over 2200. This means no closed events (except by rating). Hope this helps.

There are a few other rules, such as ‘other than entry fees and USCF dues, no charges over $25 are permitted’ and how the points are determined.

This information used to be in Chess Life every month, but I think it is no longer there every month due to page cutbacks. I’m not sure where to find it on the web. :sigh:

Also, note that as far as the PLAYERS are concerned, they must be USCF members. USA GMs receive full USCF memberships, including eligibility for GM points, foreign GMs and IMs who are not dues-paying USCF members do not receive Grand Prix points.

The Grand Prix rules were on page 53 of the November 2009 Chess Life.
