Of the duplicate IDs that I submitted, it looks like the furthest one back goes back to February 2002. There are likely to be more errors in the pre-MSA days than in more recent history.
So, for that one we can correct the IDs in the crosstables, but the ‘blending’ of the two IDs into a single rating will probably occur as of the last events rated by 12/31/2003 for those IDs.
I’m not so sure I agree with that.
Of the 8 players I submitted with history under more than one ID, 6 of them have tournaments where the duplicate ID was used before 12/31/03. For 3 of these players, the duplicate ID was used only in events prior to 12/31/03.
The ratings for the players in the changed events have been set to zero and there is this note “Note: A correction has been made to this section but the corrected ratings will not be shown until the next re-rate.” Will the zero rating & note stay in the older events? Will this also be the case when TDs are able to make corrections to older events?
I 'm not quite sure what I’m going to do about corrections that come before the rerate, that’s partially why I haven’t finalized the code on this yet.
Merging duplicate IDs is a somewhat different situation than correcting an ID, in the case of the latter any ratings information from the original ID is totally wrong.
I’m open to suggestions, but the rerate process is already complicated to the point where it takes over a half day to run one and I don’t think we can go back futher than 1/1/04.
However, since Walter is making quite a few corrections every day, I thought it was advisable to indicate that the section has been corrected.
I understand why you wouldn’t want to re-rate back that far. Here are a couple of ideas for older event tournament history. I am just brainstorming here:
You could put a note at the top of the event that says the event was corrected to indicate the proper tournament history and that no changes were made to the original rating report. On the individuals that were changed, put in a note like “Corrected Player” instead of listing pre/post ratings.
For the individuals’ tournament history, put in a note like “Corrected for Tournament History” instead of listing the rating change.
Mike,
I sent you an e-mail about a problem with the corrected duplicate IDs that I had submitted. Did you receive my e-mail? I can send it again or post the problem IDs here, if necessary.
Thanks,
Jeff Aldrich
I don’t specifically remember an e-mail from you in the last few days, Jeff, but USCF e-mail has been less than 100% reliable for about two weeks because of an unprecedented level of spam. (Over 250,000 messages were delivered to the USCF mail server last week, probably 99% of them were viruses or spam.)
Unless it’s a systems issue, Walter Brown is the person you should be dealing with anyway.
It appears to be an issue with the data flow for the combined tournament histories. Check out the tournament history for 12869389, 12925348, 12862721, 12900502. They all have at least one spot where the same pre-rating is used for the next tournament instead of the previous post-rating.
Mike,
You never said whether you figured out what was going on with these players. They are all the ones I submitted as duplicate IDs and had tournament histories combined. They all have spots where the same pre-rating is used for more than one tournament. Another player that I left off the list above is 12848010. Just curious so I know it will be fixed for the next re-rate.
Thanks,
Jeff
It looks like there may be a bug in the code I added to speed up the rerate process, but checking that is not a simple process. I’m going to set up the backup system for a full test this weekend, I’ve got some additional code I want to try out anyway.
