MSA Crosstable format

Hi All:
Re:ALL NAVY CHESS QUALIFIER 2010 (201006130861)

A question for anyone who knows. On the crosstable above, there are several players who have a bit of information in the score column I have never noticed before. For example, the pair #1 player has a score of 4 with N:2 below it. Several of the other players also have a similar indicator. Does anyone know what this means?

Also, can someone point me to the match regulations on the USCF website.

Regards, Ernie

Welcome to the new USCF norm system! “N:2” means that the player’s performance earned him a “category 2” norm, as well as a norm at all lower categories (3 and 4). If you see “N:C”, the player earned a Candidate Master norm (as well as categories 1, 2, 3, and 4); “N:M”, a Life Master norm (yes, yet another use of “Life Master”); “N:S”, a Senior Life Master norm.

You can see the titles earned for a player by viewing the “More” tab of the player’s MSA page. There is also a link on that page to an explanation of the norm-based titles. There is also an Excel spreadsheet for calculating norms.

Ernie, check the Frequent Questions document on TD/A, it has a link to the match regulations.

I added a note about norms to the boilerplate text for crosstables.
