If you can’t find people to play chess in the daytime, on weekdays, maybe you could find or start a chess club that meets on the weekend, either Saturday or Sunday.

Often in smaller cities, the library will allow you to block out a few hours on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon in one of thier meeting rooms. Then the next step is trying to find players that might be interested in playing and/or learning chess.

Check the Clubs Directory, for chess clubs in your area. Also perhaps a cheap 5 or 10 dollar add in your local weekly advertiser might bring inquiries. Like a trade days paper. Just some thoughts.

You can join the Internet Chess Club and play anytime you like. You can play slow games, fast games, whatever you like, against opponents at your own or a slightly higher level.

But don’t be intimidated by OTB play. Everyone starts at some point. I remember, the first time I played at the local club, I was so nervous I mixed up the bishops and knights in setting up the board.
Bobby Fischer wandered by and said, hey, that’s an idea! And so Fischerandom Chess was born.
(Just kidding…)

Ah! Another prospective member of the Forrest Gump of Chess Club.
