On a positive note, DGT...

I would like to take a brief opportunity to tell those that direct tournaments about the DGT Electronic Chess Board.

I just received one last week and we have tried it out in a number of different venues. If you ever get a chance to get one, it would be a great thing to have on a top board. Its accuracy is simply unbelievable.

As many know, these are the boards that have been used in many of the world’s top tournaments over the last 6 years or so. These were also the boards used at the last US Championship a number of weeks ago.

I personally use the board daily to play with on the internet. We also are going to use it for our local club for bigger tournaments (Board 1 with an LCD projector as a demo board) as well as for our club night blitz tournaments to record the game moves of the higher level games for publication on our website.

I got my board from an auction very inexpensively. I then bought the cables, pieces, clock and bag from the House of Staunton which is the US distributor for DGT. I wish that the board and setup would be less expensive.

I have to repeat though that this system is far better than I ever imagined it could be. It’s very accurate and quite phenomenal as a game data recorder. It not only keeps the move score, but also notes the time for every move when using the DGT XL clock with it.

If my board was gone. I would be accumulating birthday, Father Day, Christmas and any other gifts I could to buy a new system.

So, as a tournament organizer and director, I can tell you that having the use of one or more of these can be an incredible promotional tool for your tournaments and other chess activities.

Ditto what Ron said.

Come see four of my DGT’s in action at the Indiana State Class Championships, June 3rd, Indianapolis, Indiana.

Hey Terry,

Will those be just for recording the moves and broadcasting at the site or online as well?

While I don’t have DGT boards and the NCCA doesn’t either, I will be relaying the NC Invitational games this weekend on Chess Live. As an administrator on Chess Live, I am hoping to involve more states in relaying state championships and invitationals on Chess Live if we can get the volunteers and state members interested in helping to relay and watch them online.

Terry, did you buy those DGT boards yourself or the state association? If the state association, what did it take to get them purchased? Thanks and good luck with the tournament!

Sincerely,
Sara Walsh

The site does not have internet access, so they will not be broadcasted.

Hi, Sara
I have been away from the forums at Milwaukee Nat. HS this weekend sorry it took this long to get back to you. Like the great Thunderchicken has said, there is no internet access at the site, so live updates, unfortunately, will not be possible.

On the latter issue, I personally have acquired 5 DGT boards over the last year and a half. If you are careful you can get one shipped for around $400 each on eBay when the right seller put’s one up. Of course, you may still want a carrying bag and DGT XL clock! Finding someone who is selling all 3 together is a real treat, it happened to me once.

p.s. I would be interested in putting our next tournament’s top boards up live on Chess Live. Send me an email.

Terry
