I’m sure this question has been covered before on this forum.
When should the August supplement be used:
A. Tournaments beginning Aug 1.
B. When the hard copy supplement is received by the organizer
C. When the ratings on the MSA show it on the right as the rating for the next supplement.
D. When the ratings on the MSA show it as the current rating.
E. None of the above.
I ask because I played in a tournament yesterday where the relatively inexperienced TD crew used the Aug ratings, which seemed premature to me.
I also have a question about the “events received” list. If an event has been received for rating but is being delayed for various reasons, doesn’t it still show on the list of events received? I was told an event was being held because USCF hadn’t assigned an ID number to a new player yet, but I would have expected to at least see the event on the list.
The rulebook says that TDs should use the current published ratings unless tournament publicity states a different policy. The August supplement ratings take effect on August 1st, so TDs are supposed to use those for events that begin on or after August 1st. For events that begin in June and July, the June supplement is the correct supplement to use.
The Events Received list is updated once a day and shows those events that have either been received online (ie, submitted for rating by the TD) or have been logged in as received by the USCF office. The logging in process is done before the event goes to the membership department for processing.
Of 959 events shown as having been received by the USCF office in 2006, 697 were rated within 5 days of when they were received.
