Can someone tell me how a ratings floor is determined for a player?
There are currently four types of ratings floors:
-
A player who achieves an established rating of 1600 or higher gets a floor based on his or her peak rating - 200 points, truncated to the 100 point level, ie, a peak rating of 1653 earns a 1400 floor. These ratings floors go from 1400 to 2100.
-
A player who earns the ‘Original Life Master’ title by playing 300 or more games as a Master gets a 2200 floor.
-
A player who earns a designated prize amount(currently $2000 or more) that is only available to someone rated 2000 or below (such as a class prize or a place prize in an Under/2000 section) earns a ‘money prize’ floor equal to the minimum rating (truncated to the 100 point level) that would make that player ineligible for that section/prize in the future. For example, a player who earns $2500 in an Under 1800 section earns a floor of 1800.
-
Since last June, very low rated players (under 150) have an absolute floor of 100 plus 1 point for every event in which they played three or more games, two points for every draw and four points for every win.
