Teaching a 9 year old

Any suggestions on a book that would be good for teaching a 9 year old chess?

I know over the years there’s been tons of stuff written on teaching children how to play chess.

I mean a book I can use to give me some suggestions and guidelines on teaching the kid, not a book for the kid to read.

The Kasparov Foundation workbook is excellent. I use it for instruction in my K-5 chess club. Even the Kindergartners get it. You will have to be actively engaged in the presentation of the material, but you will find it logical, well presented, well thought out, and above all, fun. Good luck.

Pawn and Queen and In Between and the teacher’s manual might be helpful. There may be something else a little more up to date though.

Don’t know about a 9-year-old, but I’ve used Yury Shulman’s “Chess: Lessons from a Grandmaster” with 11- to 13-year-olds, and it’s worked well.
