Thanksgiving Open Today...

St. Louis Chess Club. Decided to play. Maybe I’ll win a class C prize since They’ll use the November list…

My goal? To play well.

Cool beans. First game I was paired with a 1956. Managed to eek out a draw.I just swore i would have been on the top half of the list.

Managed a win in my second game against a 1976. Cool. Nice rook sacrifice.

Today I drew again with an 1800+ player. This afternoon I lost a dead drawn position to a player rated about 1775.

I have 2 points out of 4. Every single opponent has been rated at least 200 points above me.

Lost a drawn game yesterday but I came back this morning and got a big win, again over a player rated over 100 points higher I’m 3/5. Slight possibility of a small class prize. Last game at 4pm

Got 1.5 points out of my last two games. At a rating of 1578, my opponents avg rating was about 1800.

I ended up with 3.5/6. Good to tie for Class C prize. I’ll bring home $200.

Loved the tournament and everything about it.

Looks as though that’ll be the last time you’ll win a C prize. You’re a B player now. Congratulations!

Kudos. How much was your entry fee? How much of your winnings will you spend on chess related items? tyia

The entry fee was $90.

as it turned out, it was well worth it. Met a few Grandmasters, and the highlight of my day yesterday, I met GM Yasser Seirawan. One of my previous opponents was analyzing*7 our game with him. Nicest guy you’ll ever meet. He demonstrated how rich in possibilities even a simple position can hold.

One of my games…with a twist. During this game the water was turned off. there was a minor leak under the street outside. Due to a minor medical condition, I must be close to a restroom.

Around move 24, I offered my opponent a draw which he refused. A few moves later the water came back on and I could finally use the restroom. So I proceeded to crush him.
