tournament

If our club is having a local tournament i will have more players than clocks how do u suggest we continue, really could use some help here…asap!!!

Ask people to please bring their own clocks and use those prior to using the club ones.

Or buy more clocks?

Ask players at games where both players brought one to let another game borrow one.

The real problem is when you have more games than clocks. Have clocks from completed games placed at games in progress with the remaining time split, but no less than 5 minutes each. Also, when I have to do this (mostly scholastic lower sections), I place the clock on the board with the most remaining moves likely to be played. This is because there is a better chance that the remaining clock-less games will end on their own. I would prefer not to use my own playing ability as a factor in this, but I can’t think of a better way to do it.

As referenced above: It is “normal” to have players bring their own equipment. You are not obligated to supply boards, sets, clocks, or AFAIK scoresheets. But this is something you should publicize (Players bring sets/boards/clocks - none supplied.) And then you can still have your club’s clocks available for the players who inevitably forget, or thought you were supplying equipment.

Second alternative: Limit your entries to the amount of equipment you have - and again, publicize that. (Limited to __ players.) It also helps to publicize that, anyway, as any given venue only has so much space.
