Say I’m running a tournament this weekend where I have prizes for Open, U1800 and U1400. I bought 6 trophies, 1st and 2nd for each category.
Only one player under 1400 shows up, and now I have a 2nd place trophy that goes to no one legally.
Do I just give it to someone, or should I give the U1400 trophy say to the third place U1800 player?

Up to you, but you are not obligated to award a prize for which no one qualifies. I usually recycle the trophy for the next tournament. (Most trophy places will make you a new plaque for next to nothing.)

You get the trophy for top tournament director
You get the trophy for the worst poker player.
I could use it for the worst chess player, too!!

Mr. Chicken:
Thunder, you do not have to give the trophy to anyone, if and only if someone does not meet the standards to earn such trophy.
Mr. For
Sythe, I gave the trophy too my bestest friend in the whole world, evansville cc because he has the straightest teeth.
Thanksyou for your inputs.
