U. S. G/60 covered in Chicago Tribune

The Chicago Tribune highlighted the U. S. G/60 being played in Skokie, Illinois. Their focus was on the kids. http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/local/chi-chess-tourney-23aug23,0,2116897.story

Was it a Freudian slip that it was stated players must be members of the North American Chess Association?

Nope, just the reporter getting it wrong.

It could be both. In Massachusetts, those tournament that MACA runs require that players be MACA members in addition to being USCF members.

While it could be both I know for a fact that it is not the case here. The reporter just got it wrong. I find that reporters mean well but get the “chess facts” a bit mixed up.

The question always is: did the reporter get any “help” in getting it wrong?

They generally don’t NEED any help in getting it wrong.

This was a USCF event, no? Did the USCF Office produce a press release giving all of the correct information?

The reporter was provided all of the proper information. After the online version of the article came out he was contacted to make the correction but it didn’t happen.

Funny how people choose to rag on the inaccuracy of the reporter instead of saying ‘great that a newspaper covered the event’.

And by the way - Pioneer Press also covered it both online and print edition:
