When the U.S. Open was in Middleton in 2013, I got a nice rate for a nice room by booking way in advance at the Comfort Inn, just across the parking lot from the tournament venue. The hoteliers have evidently learned. This year, when I checked the various booking sites, the basic non-refundable rate for a king suite was under a hundred bucks. But for the tournament dates? Over $240. Nope.
