I need advice, opinions, recommendations, “this is what I would do’s,” and “I wouldn’t do that’s” … … … pertaining to using WinTD, SwissSys, and Swiss-Manager … … … … …
I’ll ask this in a “Round Robin” format … … …
Why should I use WinTD instead of SwissSys ???
Why should I use WinTD instead of Swiss-Manager ???
Why should I use SwissSys instead of Swiss-Manager ???
Why should I use SwissSys instead of WinTD ???
Why should I use Swiss-Manager instead of WinTD ???
Why should I use Swiss-Manager instead of SwissSys ???
Obviously, I am asking for advantages and disadvantages of each as compared to one-another.
Please kindly search this very forum. There have been extensive posts in the past comparing SwissSys and WinTD.
Please also note that SwissManager knows nothing at all about US Chess pairing rules. It will only produce Swiss pairings using FIDE rules. It will not create a rating report suitable for US Chess and will not use US Chess rating databases. Unless you are running a FIDE rated tournament, it is extremely unlikely SwissManager is suited to your needs. (SwissManager is a FIDE approved pairing program for the Dutch system FIDE Swiss. The author of SwissSys version 9 is working to get SwissSys approved. As of version 9.2, the program actually includes the reference pairing engine JaVaFo (written in Java) that FIDE uses to establish compliance with the rules.)
The biggest question is what type of events you want to do.
If you are aiming towards working the back room of a CCA event then SwissSys is indicated.
If you are aiming towards working the back room of a scholastic national then WinTD is indicated.
If you are aiming towards working the back room of a Georgia scholastic then check to see what is used in the Georgia scholastics.
If you are aiming towards working the back room of a Georgia adult tournament then check to see what is used in such tournaments.
If you are planning to only work the computer in your own events then pick whatever gives you the options you want in a way that you can feel comfortable using.
I use WinTD in all the tournaments I do the back room for (including the National Open), so I have a very strong personal preference for WinTD. This past weekend I was chief TD of a state all-grade scholastic championship that used SwissSys, and it worked fine.
