2008 National Open

I just came across this posting at chess.com about the National Open.

A few questions:

  1. Is it permissable for the TD to intervene like that without being summoned by the player? My understanding was that a TD can not intervene unless summoned by a player.
  2. Was the ruling correct? (I am guessing since a delay wasn’t used they were invoking insufficient losing chances, but without the gamescore who knows).
  3. Doesn’t the player himself have to make the claim?

Does a player who has such a thing happen to them have any recourse? I know there are 2 sides to every story, but it still sounds pretty fishy. Could he file a complaint with the TDCC to have the TD stripped of their certification?

An argument could be made that saying ‘touch move’ or ‘flag’ loud enough to be heard by others is notifying a TD, since there was apparently one near enough to hear that.

Moreover, I find the player’s story has several inconsistencies and would prefer to hear from some of the TDs involved.

Talk to me in Dallas. This is not the appropriate forum.
