The photos of the Army soldiers sheltering in a trench a mile away from ground zero during a nuclear bomb test and the woman with her young son looking out of their kitchen window at a mushroom cloud from a nuclear bomb test are frightening. The Cornell Capa photo of inmates playing chess between their cells is one of his more famous photos. I think I first saw a print of it at ICP in NYC shortly after Cornell Capa opened the place. He was a very interesting and open guy.
