Well spent? Depends on your entertainment budget. 
LOL. True. I’d like to see a match between Naka and Caruna along the lines of first player to win six or eight points with draws not counting. Rex could easily fund that including putting the boys up at Motel 6 (as a baseline) for however long it takes to get a winner. Free buffet breakfast included, of course. Dinner vouchers on Rex for Waffle House.
I’m interested in looking at the Fischer Random games.
It’s Rex’s money. He’s passing some of it along to some top players and has shown an ability to generate publicity for chess.
What’s not to like?
Of course it’s his money. Fischer Random? No thanks, but whatever floats your boat is fine by me. I’d prefer to see him pass his money along by sponsoring a match that might actually show us where these two players stand in traditional chess. As for publicity, that’s lovely.
