Does anyone know anything about upcoming chess software for the Android platform? I notice a few freebie programs and ChessGenius, too, which claims a playing strength of 2600 USCF.
How would such programs compare with their Palm and Windows Mobile/CE counterparts?
I wonder how they decide what rating to give a program these days?
The USCF stopped certifying the ratings of chess programs years ago.
I’ve seen a claim that some program has a FIDE rating over 3000, which would make it something like 200 points higher than the highest rated human player.
It’s possible that a strong program residing on a powerful, multi-processor computer would play 200 points better than Anand. Notice how there have been no high-profile man-machine matches in quite a long time.
But a GM-strength player on a mobile phone running a brain-dead operating system like Android? It seems unlikely, but that’s what ChessGenius claims.
