Are you asking about class SECTIONS or class PRIZES? The U.S. Open is a single section event with various class prizes in that one section. It is common for the players leading the B section going into the final round to be paired against experts that have somewhat average scores amongst the experts.
A group holding an event at the Vancouver Hilton site of the 2012 US Open posted the below. Thought it might be of interest to folks attending the 2012 US Open.
MEALS
Attendees must arrange for their own meals. The Hilton does not allow food from outside to be brought into the facility. The Hilton has an onsight restaurant and for a list of restaurants in downtown Vancouver visit

I assume this means outside food is not permitted in the convention area, not in paid hotel rooms. Such a policy is common.
According to the website of the Vancouver WA Hilton, the restaurant is open until 9:30pm and room service goes until 11:00pm. Bad, really bad! What is a hungry chess player to do after a long evening game, especially sans automobile?
I still remember eating 1:00am sandwiches with four Grandmasters at the 24 hour Subway next door at the 2003 US Open in LA.
Michael Aigner
(Corrected “not prohibited” to “not permitted”.)
I will have to check out the 24 hour places near the Hilton.

Good question on the time control. I will ask the USCF office. Probably the SD/1 part should not be there.
I was right the SD/1 in the time control has been corrected by removal on the All Girls event TLA for the side event of 2012 US Open. Just a typo error on the part of the USCF office. Hope they get a good turnout for the event.

This is the page on the NORTHWEST CHESS website with a lot of
information about the events at the US Open in Vancouver WA on Agu 4-12, 2012. The registration page on the USCF website should be up soon.
If you are coming to the US Open you will be near the Vancouver Farmers Market when you are at the Hilton Hotel. The market will be open on the Saturdays and Sundays of the tournament. I visited it on the first day of the 2012 run and the photos are on my flickr account. Not all the space was filled with booths today but probably will be in August. I am thinking some nice weekend I should set up a chess booth. For the photos I took today: http://www.flickr.com/photos/27748810@N03/sets/72157629296006596/
Will there be side tourneys such as card and/or video game tournaments?
A group of chess players in Washington and Oregon are trying to raise money to cover fees and airfare for GM Yasser Seirawan to play in the US Open. Let me know via PM if any of you reading this would like to help with a pledge of funds.
As I have mentioned before the big Clark County Fair is going on at the same time as our 2012 US Open. Here is the fair website so you can check out the many attractions of the fair.

I noticed the schedule of events is 7 pages. Just one of many things one can do in Clark County while attending the US Open.
Have you signed up yet? I have.
USCF office has started posting the advanced entries for the US Open. There were 7 when I looked yesterday. Get your name on the list. See you in Vancouver.
Here is a direct link to the tournament site, where you can check that advance entries list:

I have invited the Mayor of Vancouver WA, Tim Leavitt to attend the awards lunch on Aug 11, 2012. Asked him to write a letter of welcome to all the players also.
Have asked our local Congresswoman, Jaime Herrera Beutler or at least some one from her
office to attend the opening of the Barber and Denker events.
One of things one might want to visit while in Vancouver Washington for the US Open is "Pearson Air Museum at Fort Vancouver National Site is an opportunity to experience the “Golden Age of Aviation.” When you enter the museum you enter a world of wild barnstormers, experimental aircraft, and aces of World War I and II. "
Their website: http://www.fortvan.org/pages/pearson-air-museum
I see the room rate at the Hilton tournament site is $110, according to the USCF promo. Priceline has the rooms there at $134?!
If you have a car while in Vancouver Washington for the US Open CLICK Here http://www.columbian.com/news/2012/apr/22/hit-the-road-jack-take-your-camera-and-hiking-boot/ for an article from the local paper about some places in the area to take a drive.
The Maryhill Museum with a large collection of chess sets and many other items is about a two drive from the Vancouver Hilton.http://www.maryhillmuseum.org/Exhibits/Ongoing/chess.html
