This is unbelievable!
Apparently Lennox Lewis is also an avid chess player. There is to be a tournament in LA coming up. Boxers are required to have at least an 1800 rating. Not sure based on what scale, I only caught part of the ESPN story. Guess it’s time to Google it and see what can be found.
I note that no one has posted a link (sports.espn.go.com/espn/eticket/ … hessboxing). I assumed this was a joke at first, but apparently not.
What person interested in knocking somebody else’s head around for sport, or getting his own head knocked around, could possibly be intelligent enough to have an 1800 chess rating?
Bill Smythe
Um, Arnold Denker? He was a Golden Gloves boxer in his younger days.
The really sad thing is that Chess Boxing got such a long story on ESPN, and a Scrabble tourney for middle schoolers got coverage on NBC recently, yet, where is Chess itself being mentioned in the media?
