There is a SwissSys database configuration file for use with the combined database at https://www.sudburyriverchess.com/ratings/uscf-fide.dbp. If you haven’t already configured SwissSys to use the combined database, you can download this file, launch SwissSys, choose “Database Setup” under the “Database” menu, and click the “Load Settings…” button. Just change the “Database file” field in the “Database Setup” dialog to point to the directory where you have placed the uscf-fide.dbf file and click the “OK - Apply” button. If you’ve already configured SwissSys to work with the database, you don’t need the uscf-fide.dbp file.
We interrupt this channel to bring you a breaking news bulletin.
Versions of the TARATSUP.DBF file with current online ratings are now available. As I promised, as soon as Mike Nolan made available a file with the online ratings, I added it to the system I use to create the monthly combined database.
Unlike the combined database, these files are structurally identical to TARATSUP.DBF, right down to the 17-character member names. These files will work with both WinTD and SwissSys.
Please use the “private message” function to report any problems with these files. Also, please note that the DBF file in the ZIP file is intentionally not named TARATSUP.DBF, as we already have enough of those.
I have not yet updated the build of the combined database to include the online ratings yet, but that is next on the agenda. As always, the combined database will only work with SwissSys.
If you find these file useful, please make lots of noise in the forum to make sure that what Mike Nolan generated will become part of the monthly production of rating supplements so that I may automate this procedure and keep providing you these databases.
We now return you to your regularly scheduled programming.
I have created a version of the combined US Chess/FIDE database that also includes US Chess online ratings. If you want to check out this version, you may download it here.
Note on naming of fields: The standard field names used in TARATSUP.DBF (and the combined database) for over-the-board US Chess regular ratings are:
R_LPB_RAT: “regular last published rating”
R_PLR_TYP: “regular player type” (“E” for established rating, “P” for provisional rating, “U” for unrated)
R_NRM_DAT: “regular norm data” (no longer used)
(Replace “R_” with “Q_” for quick ratings. In the combined database, “B_” indicates blitz ratings.)
Because DBF file structure has a limit of ten characters in field names, the combined database uses a different convention for online rating fields:
ONL_R_RTG: “online regular rating”
ONL_R_PT: “online regular player type”
ONL_R_ND: “online regular norm data”
(Why would you care about this? You’ll need to use the ONL_*_RTG fields for online ratings in the SwissSys database setup dialog.)
Note: if you don’t care about online ratings, you can still use the database setup you currently use with the combined database with no problem. As usual, SwissSys will ignore the extra fields.
Again, this is experimental until such time as the office makes the online rating file accessible as part of the monthly build of rating databases.
It appears the first 19 posts (15 on the first page, first four on the second page) are more “discussion” than “automated announcement.” Then we have a long stretch of automated announcement with the occasional “crap, something went wrong, thanks for letting me know.” I’d fully support deleting all that cruft. In fact, links for databases prior to January 2019 are dead, as I did some cleanup for space considerations. And it’s getting close to time to do another cleanup.
I’ve made this post sticky and removed out of date and off topic posts. I moved a discussion of how registration websites might use online ratings to a new topic, Online ratings and tournament registration websites.

I noticed you’re missing some players in the database. Here is one example: https://www.uschess.org/msa/MbrDtlMain.php?14255497. I suspect the reason this one is missing is because he does not have a state listed since he is a foreign player. I know with other foreign players that have a state you don’t copy over the state value to the combined database. That’s fine. I’m not sure it really matters. But, this case is a little different. There actually is no state at all in the US Chess record.
