As a proud Illini alum, congratulations to the Illinois chess team for their great PanAm result and their qualification for the Final Four. As the only one of the four without scholarships for chess, without foreign GMs, with no coach, and without university backing the odds are stacked against them. They are not even sure if they can raise the money to get to the tournament but they are working hard at it. The good news is they are about half way to their goal!!
