Forum name changed?!?

Has the name of this forum been changed? I don’t remember Running in its name.

I think that’s new today. Perhaps it’s in response to Mr. Muradian posting about the USCL here.

Dating back to the creation of the Forums in 2003, this forum has always been for tournament organization and direction issues.

News about local and regional chess events belongs in “All Things Chess”.

Prefer previous name of forum.

But this name can be used to promote the new pass-time, chess-jogging!

I prefer the old (and once again current) purpose of the forum – to discuss tournament organizing and directing. The new name supports this purpose better.

Tournament news is best placed in the All Things forum.

I fully agree with this. Wasn’t this forum originally named either “directing chess tournaments” or “directing and organizing chess tournaments”? Once the title was changed to just “chess tournaments,” there was (in my never humble opinion) a most unfortunate trend to treat it as a place to advertise tournaments for free. I was glad when that trend abated.

I think there is great value in having a forum specific to organizers’ and directors’ issues. In particular, such a forum serves as a repository of knowledge for the future. (Goodness knows, the search facility in PHPBB is sufficiently lacking.)

If I recall correctly, this forum is a merge of the old Tournament Directing and Tournament Organizing forums.

So is it still appropriate for players to ask their questions about tournaments and tournament rules here? “Chess Tournaments” seemed to welcome that more than “Running Chess Tournaments” does.

I vote yes. A question about tournament rules is pretty much a question about how tournaments are run. And newbie questions about tournaments should certainly be encouraged, anytime.

AMEN!! I would prefer a thousand times that questions be asked here, as opposed
to tournament settings. For many times, the person who is the loudest believes they
are the rightest. (Like a coach who told a td that the rule book mandates a minimum
20 minutes between rounds, for example)
