This week’s game comes from the “Going Away” simultaneous exhibition given by NM Josh Bloomer. Josh had 22 players (and a couple non-players) show up to say goodbye to a 17-year veteran of the Colorado Springs Chess Club.
I first played Josh in 3/10/98 when Josh was rated 1728 and I was rated 1703. It was frustrating to me that this kid was so hard to beat. I drew one and lost one that night. It wasn’t until 5/25/99 that I finally beat Josh in some kind of “official game” (Team, G15, Club rated) when he was rated 1895 and I was rated 1728. However, he was about to take off ratings-wise while I was going to flounder around for a long time. It wasn’t until 3/21/06 that I beat him again. This time it was a USCF event and Josh had already earned his National Master certificate while I finally had cracked the class A barrier. My final 2 wins came in 2/19/08 at the CABIN FEVER RELIEVER (USCF, G30) and in 11/15/11 at a club event (G15). The Cabin Fever Reliever win made Josh the highest rated player I have beaten and the victim of one of my chess video productions…
