NM Josh Bloomer is back, his game, & club announcements

Greetings,

The Colorado Springs Chess Club elected Buck Buchanan, Dean Brown, and Paul Anderson as officers for 2013. The new calendar of club events has been updated for 2013 (cschess.webs.com/apps/calendar/), which includes maps, times, dates, entry fees, and much, much more.

The officers chose to add a new page to the Colorado Springs Chess News website to help Supporting Members receive their tournament discounts and track their expiration dates (cschess.webs.com/csccsupportingmembers.htm). Now TDs can easily verify the correct amount to charge Supporting Members without having to produce a receipt. If any Supporting Member was omitted from the list, please contact me.

In addition, the club members were interested in creating a tour for the Tuesday night events. The Colorado Springs Chess Club is now hosting the Tuesday Night Chess Tour:

Entry: Open to all for FREE
Dates: Every Tuesday night from 2/5/13 -12/17/13
Points: Event participants earn 1 pt; event winners gain 3pt for 1st, 2pt for 2nd, and 1 pt for 3rd (points doubled for paid events)
Prizes: $10 gift cards awarded 4/2, 7/2, 10/1, and 1/7 for most points during the previous quarter & Free entry to CS Open or USCF annual renewal awarded 1/7/14 for most points during 2013.

Don’t forget the 2013 City Speed Chess Championship starting this Tuesday night ($5 entry, G5, prizes base on entries).

NM Josh Bloomer may be there to regain the title. He has moved back to Colorado Springs and is beginning to knock the rust off of his tournament play. Here is a position from his game last night at Panera. Find the crushing move for white. Click through the game for the answer.

For those of you who will be attending the State Championship please note the following USCF rule that will be in effect:

21.12 While a player’s game is in progress, all electronic devices in his/her possession must be

turned off at all times. This includes music-playing devices and electronic noise-cancelling

headphones/ear-buds. The only exceptions to this rule are chess clocks, approved electronic

scorekeeping devices (see Appendix F), necessary medical devices, and any other device

approved by the Section Chief. Penalties for using or possessing any electronic device that has
