hours at the club

I was thinking about in this new club we starting on how to use the time wisely, we meet for three hours, any suggestions other than playing, i though about a lecture for those who want to study instead of play…

Our attitude with new ideas for the club has been “let’s try this and see what happens.” If people respond positively, we do it again. Otherwise, we don’t.

We had a member do a lecture once. It was a great lecture, and he got a very positive response, and several ideas for alternative lines from his audience. We haven’t had anyone else willing to put a lecture together since then, though. Understandable: It requires prep time.

Our blitz tournaments have also been popular.

No matter what you plan for your club time, there will always be a few of your regulars who want to come and simply play quiet chess games. Make sure you set aside a bit of space where they can do so.
