It may have been here that someone was asking about the availability of Howell’s endgame book. I read the reviews at amazon.com and decided I should view the book even though I could not reasonably pay the asking price for any of the few copies available.
The public library system has obtained one for me on interlibrary loan. I am asked to pay $2.26 return postage in advance.
First of all. I have to say this is the best endgame book I have ever read. 2nd, you can usually obtain it for $2-3 online. I bought mine off amazon for $2.50 with free shipping.
$2 maybe 10 years ago. It’s $142 used on Amazon as of 5min ago.
With so many good endgame books, why is this one so special?
What is special about this book is that the copies which one was selling at a reasonable price have been sold. The ones now being offered are at an unreasonable price. It would really be stretching the point to say that these are “worth” the price.
