First glance I think of a chess biathlon…make a move…shoot at targets with a deer rifle…
Three round swiss, primary control of 30moves in 60min, secondary control of 30moves in 30min, tertiary control of 30moves in 30min. The tertiary shouldn’t matter and should be SD/30.
Why not just make the control 90/120? If entry was free I still wouldn’t play.
Under Tim’s interpretation (which I agree with, incidentally), the second ‘30/30’ is actually redundant, as the absence of a final sudden-death time control means that the most recent time control is repeated ad infinitum, so “30/60 30/30” means that the second, third, fourth, etc. time controls are all 30/30.
The fact that there are three rounds and three time controls got me wondering as to what the organizer really MEANT, though.
Looks to me like they are going to play 3 rounds. The first round will be 30 moves in 60 minutes, then they will take a break and have lunch at an all you can eat buffet. The second round will be played at 30 moves in 30 minutes and then they will come back in 30 days and play the third round. Personally I would have scheduled it the opposite way with the longer time control at the end, but I suspose site limitations forced the scheduling the way that it is.
As of last report from the Allowable Time Controls doc, any non-SD control must provide at least 1.5 minutes per move, per player. That one has changed several times over the years…
As we have said more than once, the ‘allowable time controls’ document that people were referring to was very much out of date. That file has been pulled until a revised version can be posted.
The current time control regulations can be found here:
