Larry Tamarkin Passed Away

NM Larry Tamarkin passed away sometime late October 19-20.

He was a fixture on the New York City tournament scene in the 1980’s-90’s. If you played in tournaments there at that time you probably met him at least once. He also directed and assisted at many tournaments run by Continental Chess, the Chess Center of New York, the Manhattan Chess Club and the Marshall Chess Club during those years, as well as some later tournaments at the Polgar Chess Club and one by the Queens Chess Club. He provided invaluable assistance for years to me in running my own tournaments as well as New York State Open and Scholastic Championship tournaments.

Bruce Pandolfini is looking for a copy of an article about Larry’s becoming the Most Active Player of 1983, which I believe appeared in the April 1984 Annual Yearbook Issue of Chess Life (although it might have been in a later issue that year).

If someone has a copy please send me a PM and I will forward the information on to Bruce.

Thank You.

Judy Misner at US Chess showed me the link to the June 1984 Chess Life, where the article is on page 12:
