Having recently been involved in collegiate chess and on the peripheral of military chess for many years and the state of technology, I was wondering if the following might be feasible.

  1. Would it be possible on the USCF membership forms (at least online) have an option to check whether a scholastic, college, or military member and have that information be available to scholastic, collegiate, and military affiliates? In the military yahoo group, they are discussing how hard it is to find chess players. Working with the local military club and the advertising that Marine Corps Community Services does, it still is very hard to run a very effective advertising campaign. Being able to locate military USCF members through the website would be very helpful in creating a target mailing.

  2. Using the members only section, would it be feasible to be able to let members enter in additional information about themselves? Say using a drop down menu, choose whether scholastic, collegiate, military, and/or adult and maybe further ask what kind of events they’d want and if they’d be interested in being contacted by local affiliates to get more information/mailings.

  3. Would it eventually be possible with the TD/Affiliate site to allow the TDs and Affiliates enter information online about their location and what they offer and have the affiliate directory be updateable from that information automatically?

This capability was just added to the TD/Affiliate Support Area. The forms to display and update the club’s mailing address and club directory information are working, a revised club directory search page which utilizes the updated information will be available in a few days.

Right now you can update your affiliate’s information, but the updated information isn’t being transferred to the online club directory. (It should be fairly soon, hopefully by Monday, July 12th.)

Affiliates can also opt out of being listed in the club directory.

I’ve defined a number of categories, affiliate will have to select the one that most closely matches them. The categories are: Club, School, College, Organizer, State Chapter, Chess Program (camps, etc), league, prison and other.

I’ve also defined over 20 different activities to help describe the club. (I think I’ve included all the categories that are in use on the current club directory, plus quite a few new ones.)

I’m open to suggestions for either list.
