I’m directing a US Navy tournament next weekend to determine the team for the Military Inter-service championship.
The Navy just started doing this last year. One thing that the Navy MWR sponsor did was to buy 12 Monroi PCM units and 2 Monroi PTM units, which were used last year by the players at both the Navy qualifier and the Inter-service.
I was given the Monroi equipment, and since I have never used them before, I downloaded the user manuals and noticed the big red stopsign symbol saying, “Once a user name and ID is inputted, it can never be changed for security reasons”. (So much for loaning one to a friend!)
Is there ANY value to my using these things next week? About half of the players have changed, so the other half would need to be using Monroi’s labeled as someone else (which would preclude me forwarding the games online). The only value I can see would be getting the scoresheets sent wirelessly to my computer via the PTM; however, with only 12 players, it’s not like I don’t have time to enter the previous round’s scoresheets into ChessBase while they are playing the next round.
Is there any way for me to edit the player names/ID numbers after I’ve captured the data via the PTM and then still publish the match, or are the Monroi PCM’s pretty much useless now?
Talk to Zeljka at MonRoi. There is a way for being able to change names when organizers purchase PCM’s for use (versus a private individual buying it for their own use).
