FIDE Approved Electronic Scorekeeping Devices

The Monroi is obviously approved for FIDE-rated events.

Does anyone know if the ChessNoteR and Plycount have been approved for use by FIDE in FIDE-Rated events?

I’m assuming the certification does not matter if it’s a norm tournament or just a FIDE-rated tournament.

ChessKast was officially approved by FIDE Technical Commission in terms of a live broadcasting system, not standalone devices… fide.com/images/stories/NEW … nex_73.pdf

The most recent meeting minutes show that US Chess approval of ChessnoteR was not enough for FIDE to approve it. See note 4… fide.com/images/stories/NEW … nex_15.pdf

My understanding is that the MonRoi is no longer approved for FIDE rated events. The contract between FIDE and MonRoi expired some time ago.

Unless matters have changed, I believe that no electronic notation device is approved for use in FIDE rated events. And with FIDE’s increasing strictness with anti-cheating measures, I would doubt this will change any time soon.

What about electronic scorekeeping devices that the organizer supplies? A Monroi with a serial number would be difficult to get undetectably replaced by an altered device.

As I understand it, FIDE pricing for certification is a deterrent for the development of new devices.

US Chess is working on revised certification rules. Balancing adequate testing and cost. Against the small market for such devices is a challenge. It would be easy to price the cost of certification such that you cut off any incentive for innovation.
