Once rated, always rated?

Here’s a player who was started over as an unrated with a new ID number,

despite his 250 regular-rated wins and 2nd category title

After I pointed this out, his original record was marked, “(Duplicate, see 30629300).”

This is odd. I think his entire rating history should have been moved to one of the ID’s, then the titles, norms, game wins, etc. under his active ID would be correct.

I probably would have done the merge in the other direction, because the ID that begins with a 3 has no tournament history prior to 2022 while the ID that begins with a 1 has history that goes back to 1999, which is several years before the rerate window, and that complicates the process of transferring the history across.

As to whether this was just the first stage in merging the two IDs and their ratings history, that’s an issue for the ratings department. I’ve alerted the office to this topic.
