Is my gif animated? It was supposed to be an animated gif of one of my games, but I only see the initial position. If not, is it possible to have animated profile pics? Is it desirable?
I don’t think Discourse supports animated GIFs. (I think I read that sites are dropping support for them because the animation code can contain malware.)
Followup: According to their meta platform, Discourse removed support for animated GIFs in avatars (the profile picture) about 3 years ago and there are no plans to restore that capability.
They might work in user cards (which I haven’t quite figured out yet) or in posts, but not in avatars.
Let’s test:
It seems to be playing moves, interesting.
It appears an animated GIF can be used for the user card background, but because it is a background it might be difficult to follow animated chess moves.
You can also set a profile header image, it shows up when you bring up someone’s profile card and then click on their name or image. Not quite sure what one would use a profile header image for, though.
This account has a profile photo, user card background and user profile header all set, so you can see where they show up.
So is the bread the profile header?
Yeah, and the cinnamon rolls are the background picture.
I’m embarrassed not to have recognized them as cinnamon rolls.
They’re not as clear as non-background images, which probably limits their usefulness.
