Question about magazine

Rejoined USCF after a year off, on Feb 8. When does everyone usually get their magazine, i haven’t gotten one yet. I notice the new issue is up online. Sorry if this is the wrong place for this question, didn’t know exactly where to place it. - Bruce

Your copy went out in the main mailing for the March issue.

However, I just got my copy yesterday, normally I get it around the first of the month.

Mine is late too. Probably has something to do with February’s being short.

On CNBC the other day they were debating whether the government should get rid of the USPS and let private carriers handle it all. Several of those participating thought it might lead to variable rates for first class mail based on how far it has to go, like there are for things like periodicals and parcel post.

USPS has already said they want to discontinue Saturday deliveries, but we have yet to hear from Congress on that issue.

Egad, I hope not. The idea that I might have to depend on UPS for my mail fills me with dread. It would essentially mean the end of mail and package delivery service to urban apartment buildings.

It’s already interesting trying to explain the speed of the postal events in Elvis’ “Return to Sender”. The mentioned changes would make that even more difficult.

P.S. I’d figure that privatizing would change mail delivery, and would really change rural mail pick-up.

Still no Chess Life at my address, and I usually get it around the first of the month.

I think the mail is late in general, maybe due to last week’s snowfall(?). I’m talking NY here. Spoke to a couple of people who seem to be waiting for things in the mail a little longer than normal. Thanks everyone for replying.

Yesterday in California.

I usually don’t get mine until the 7th-10th or so. I was shocked the one time I’ve gotten it right at the top of the month. (And, interestingly, I usually lag a day or two behind others in the same area.)

The most likely cause of someone near you getting his issue before you get yours is if he’s in a different processing group (generally that means ZIP code) and there are more USCF members in that ZIP code than in yours. It has to do with bundling and bagging procedures for large mailings. If there are enough members in a ZIP code to qualify for a separate bundle, it cuts several steps off the delivery process because the bag goes unopened to the facility that sorts mail for that ZIP code.

Hi everyone, I’m a new member and this is my first forum post. My question is similar to the one sent in by “Karchad.” I joined USCF (for the first time) on February 9. Was wondering whether I will receive the March issue of Chess Life in the mail, or whether I will have to resort to the newsstand. If someone could let me know, that would be great. I am very keen to get a hard copy and don’t want to miss an issue.

Thanks in advance!

I upgraded to the Premium membership so I could get a hard copy of the magazine on February 2nd and just receieved the March edition in the mail.

Thank you, CCremen. I appreciate your taking the time to respond to me!

Laurie, you should get the March issue but your membership was processed the day after we created the mailing labels for the main mailing of that issue, so you will get it as part of the supplemental mailing in a week or two.

Mine arrived today.

Sounds fine; many thanks for letting me know, Nolan. I’m looking forward to receiving it!

And welcome to the forums, too!

Thanks for your welcome, D.Erickson; it’s very much appreciated!

Mine also arrived Saturday.
