Mike, is the February rating supplement posted anywhere in PDF format?
Try uschess.org/feb2006supp.pdf
I don’t have a copy of the printed supplement to make sure that’s the right file, but it has the right date in the timestamp.
We need to make the PDF a regular part of the files we release, I’ll make sure that’s on Brett’s list.
We’ve talked about creating PDFs for each state as well, that might be overkill, though. (It may also be better to come up with a request form to create a custom ratings supplement in PDF form like the custom ratings lists, and we’ll e-mail it to people. But that’s not a high priority item on the wish list.)
Besides the .pdf forms for TDs, would it be possible to download .doc equivalents? I like to tweak forms, and would love to download a .doc version of the posting sheets (for games in a round).
Many thanks in advance!
Gene
Creating a DOC file from scratch is MUCH harder than creating a PDF.
There are tools out there to convert a PDF into a DOC file.
I don’t think the USCF should be trying to provide data in every feasible form someone might request. We provide ratings supplement data in database form, in tab delimited text file form and as a PDF. TD’s and affiliates can also order a custom ratings list file from the TD/Affiliate Support Area.
Surely that’s enough different ways?
Doesn’t that depend on what you’re starting from? I assume that the pairing sheet, for example, was scanned from a hard copy and pasted into a PDF. I doubt the original files (which considerably predate Word) are still around. Converting that kind of PDF back to a text document would take some kind of OCR software, and frankly it would be faster to make a new one in Word. (I can post one if there’s really a demand for it.)
Later: I can see why no one wanted to redo this in Word (I am fairly sure the original was created on the old Compugraphic typesetting system we used back in the Age of Reptiles). Word is really not the right tool for this sort of thing. (It’s fairly easy in a DTP program, but most people don’t keep one of those around.) Getting it into a .doc file took some wrestling, and it still doesn’t look as good as the original. However, if anyone wants it, I’ve, posted two versions at westernchess.com/hold/Round_b.doc
Silly me. Since this thread was about the rating supplement PDF, I thought that was what was being requested in DOC form.

Since the rating supplement is a text-based PDF, you could easily convert it into a .doc file with copy & paste. Can’t imagine why anyone would want to, though. (Pure-graphic PDFs are a different matter.)
Thanks, rfeditor–just what I was wanting!
