I’ve noticed that a lot of open sections of major tournaments that are FIDE-rated don’t allow re-entries. I was thinking of having a FIDE-rated tournament that had multiple schedules, but I was wondering if there was some requirement that prohibited re-entries.
Not that I know of. Bill dropped re-entries in his Open sections because of strong opposition from some of the players, but he allowed them for several years along with FIDE-rating. Others probably just copied his format without knowing why. Personally, I think re-entries are an abomination, and I will not allow them in any section, but some disagree.
Multiple schedules are likely to cause problems with submitting the results to FIDE, but a ‘pure’ re-entry situation shouldn’t be as big a problem, because each player has just ONE game in each round.
I doubt the FIDE handbook even mentions re-entries, they tend to ignore ‘Americanisms’.
