Real world chess meets forum talk

Presumably I obliterated whatever you’d written in your reply to Brennan, so I didn’t think it was right to simply hide the evidence.

EDIT: On re-reading, I see that I was replying to something you said in reply to Brennan. The quoted words are yours, not Brennan’s. I deleted whatever else you said in your reply.

That’s the motivation for the ADM that I’ve submitted: to clarify how detailed the publicity has to be before the delay, or lack of it, has to be specified.

Moderators are instructed not to edit anyone’s posts other than their own, because there is no record as to what was changed or by whom. (This is anathema to someone who, like me, has spent much of his professional life making sure that there were clear audit trails on all database maintenance.)

If it happens inadvertently (and it will), correcting it by editing again (this time deliberately) seems like it is compounding an error. It’s too bad phpBB doesn’t offer a mode flag, so that moderators can only utilize the moderator privileges when they NEED them. Having multiple accounts for moderators, one for non-moderator activity and one for moderator tasks, was not an acceptable solution to some people, so it was abandoned.
