I was wondering how far back in time the rated tournament archives reach. For example, I would like to see results or crosstables from 1980 or so to the present. In addition, where would be the best place to search for game archives that might go back this far.
This question has been asked in the past, and it also came up at Sunday’s open session EB meeting.
We only have events online back to late 1991. There is a large stack of printed crosstables in Crossville, I’ve been told they go back to the early 1980’s. How far back and how complete those paper records are is unclear.
The office is working on entering them, but it is a slow process and it will take a long time to get through them. (We’re talking thousands of hours of effort to go through several hundred computer printout binders.) The office is reluctant to ship the crosstables to members, they could get lost or damaged and then they’re gone forever. We could microfilm/digitize them, but that might cost $10,000 or more.
After a bit of research, I found most of what I was after. It is quite brilliant that USCF has compiled records dating back to 1991.
I have enjoyed looking at the graphs and the last four tournaments that I played in. So, your work in greatly appreciated and well embraced.
I found the crosstables and they are very nice.
I would be very happy to volunteer to convert crosstables, game scores, etc. to digital format, if anyone cares to share them with me.
It’s a little more difficult to track down game scores.
Thank you so much for your prompt and courteous reply.
